Oregon Pinot Noir is renowned as some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. For winemaker Emery Risdall, a lifelong winemaking dream is coming true. Under Emery’s direction, Risdall Ranch Winery produces wines of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, all from four blocks of estate-grown grapes.
Making great wine doesn’t only depend on the fruit – it takes a team of passionate, knowledgeable and hardworking people with talents and training in agriculture, viticulture, hospitality and more. Come meet us.
Risdall Ranch Winery was established in 2016, when winemaker Emery Risdall and his father, Bob, became the new owners of Shafer Vineyard Cellars, a Forest Grove winery with almost four decades of local heritage.
In the 1970s, the Willamette Valley established itself as an ideal location to grow grapes for exceptional wine. The region largely flew under the radar, and came to prominence in the 1990s, as American wine became increasingly popular. Today, Willamette Valley wine, especially Burgundian varietals like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is widely acclaimed and sought after.
The Willamette Valley AVA (American Viticulture Areas) borders the Columbia River to the north and extends to just south of Eugene. The west side of the valley meets the Oregon Coast Range, and the Cascade Mountains hug the east. Risdall Ranch Winery is located within the NW corner of the Willamette Valley AVA on the western slope of David Hill. At an elevation of about 400 feet, the vineyard faces to the south and southwest.
